Our collective agreements stipulate two mandatory annual vacation periods : summer and winter. This year, summer vacation will take place from July 20 to August 2, 2025, and winter vacation from December 21, 2025, to January 3, 2026. However, some work sites may continue their operations in exceptional circumstances.
General rule regarding work performed during annual leave
Construction sites will be required to close and any work performed must be paid at the applicable wage rate, established in the collective agreements of each sector.
However, there are exceptions:
- Maintenance, repair, modification, renovation or emergency work;
- New construction work – light residential;
- Some types of work planned – civil engineering and roadworks sector.
Provisions and remuneration vary depending on your sector.
Further details can be found in the collective agreements for your sector.
An agreement must be reached between the employee and employer for work performed during mandatory leave. The CCQ (Commission de la construction du Québec) must also be notified in certain cases. Note that your employer must adhere to specific deadlines.
If in doubt, contact a representative.
